  • Above mentioned five films (Finalist) will get a chance to be screened in select Qube network theatres across the state of Tamil Nadu. The films to be screened in a specific theatre and/or the Qube network of theatres shall be at the sole discretion of Moviebuff.

  • Theatres will be divided into five groups. Each group of theatres will play a chosen film once per week for a total period of five weeks.(Theatre schedule will be announced soon)

  • Moviegoers will then be invited to vote for their favourite film by either SMS voting or via app. *T&C apply


The film with the highest votes (which shall be based on the number of public votes and the scores awarded by the panel of eminent jurists) will be declared as the winner of Moviebuff First Clap short film contest.

ABOUT MOVIEBUFF FIRST CLAP

First Clap is an initiative of Moviebuff, the world’s largest database of movies releasing in India. One of the goals of Moviebuff at the time of its conception was to give something back to the industry, while enabling a direct connection for the aspiring filmmakers with the industry and audiences. Through First Clap, a short film contest for aspiring filmmakers to showcase their creations, Moviebuff and its partners in this venture hope to identify and nurture talent, while giving them the ultimate platform to exhibit their craft and measure the pulse of audiences in cinemas.

In association with Little Shows and 2D Entertainment, Moviebuff presents First Clap (referred to as “Contest” hereinafter); to know more about the contest, its rules and prizes, read on.

How it works:

  • To participate, you will need a Little Shows account. If you are not a registered user head here to sign up

  • Create a profile by providing details about your film, cast & crew information and a short synopsis. You can then submit your movie.

  • Moviebuff shall nominate a panel of eminent jurists comprising of filmmakers and film enthusiasts to assist in the process of shortlisting films.

  • The shortlisted films will be published on the www.moviebuff.com and the public will be invited to participate in the voting process.

  • Based on the public votes received by each of the shortlisted contestants and the scores awarded by the panel of eminent jurists, five finalists will be shortlisted by Moviebuff.

  • The top five films will get a chance to be screened in select Qube network theatres across the state of Tamil Nadu. The films to be screened in a specific theatre and/or the Qube network of theatres shall be at the sole discretion of Moviebuff.

  • Theatres will be divided into five groups. Each group of theatres will play a chosen film once per week for a total period of five weeks.

  • Moviegoers will then be invited to vote for their favourite film by either SMS voting or via apps.


The film with the highest score (which shall be based on the number of public votes and the scores awarded by the panel of eminent jurists) will be declared as the winner of Moviebuff First Clap.

PRIZES

The top-three films will be awarded cash prizes. These cash prizes will be jointly sponsored by Moviebuff and 2D Entertainment.

  • Winner: 3,00,000

  • First runner-up: 2,00,000

  • Second runner-up: 1,00,000

All three winners will be given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to narrate a script to Suriya’s 2D Entertainment. Additionally, key crew members of the three winning teams (Director, Cinematographer, Editor) will be given an opportunity to intern at 2D Entertainment.

GENERAL TERMS & CONDITIONS

The Contest shall be governed by the following Terms and conditions (“T&C”). The Terms of Use of Moviebuff (moviebuff.littleshows.com) shall form part and parcel of the T&C and is deemed to be incorporated herein in its entirety by reference hereto.

Participation in the Contest is voluntary. Participation in the Contest implies that the participants/you ("Contestant(s)/You/Your") have duly read and agreed to adhere to and be bound by the T&C stated herein. You are requested not to join the Contest in the event you do not agree with any of the T&C.

Moviebuff shall, at its sole discretion, have the right to revise the T&C at any time during the Contest. Any change to the T&C shall be intimated to You through Your registered email and You shall be deemed to have accepted the revised T&C if You continue in the Contest.

ARE YOU A QUALIFIED CONTESTANT?

Any person shall be an eligible Contestant if he/she satisfies all the below -

  • You are an Indian Citizen residing in India.

  • As on the date of Your registration to the Contest, You should have completed 18 years of age and is competent to enter into contractual relationship under the applicable laws.

WHEN IS THE CONTEST?

The Contest shall commence from 8.00 AM, 12th December 2016 and shall be open for registration till midnight, 10th February 2017.

  • All entries must be submitted before the deadline of midnight, 10th February 2017.

ALL ABOUT YOUR FILM

Your short film (“Film”) shall be in accordance with the following specifications. Any Film not in consonance with the T&C shall not be considered by Moviebuff.

  • Only one registration and uploading of one Film is permitted per Contestant.

  • The Film shall be in Tamil language.

  • The Film shall not exceed 3:15 minutes (three minutes and fifteen seconds) in length (including titles and credits). The submitted film should not be published /showcased in any other platform/contest.

  • Ensure to give your film a title and submit/register the same with Moviebuff. Moviebuff reserves the right to reject any title submitted by you without assigning any reason. Necessary approval(s), if any, from the authorities concerned, at any stage of the Contest for Your Film needs to be obtained by you at your cost.

  • The Film should be in the following file formats: Formats

THE CONTEST PROCESS

All Films will be visible on www.moviebuff.com. Moviebuff either through itself or through its associates (including but not limited to Little Shows and the like service providers) will scrutinise the Films for conditions mentioned under the ambit of “REJECTION/DISQUALIFICATION”. Any Film found flouting the “REJECTION/DISQUALIFICATION” terms will be deleted immediately without any prior notice to the Contestant. Moviebuff cannot be and shall not be held liable for such unilateral action.


SELECTION PROCESS


  • Moviebuff shall nominate a panel of eminent jurists comprising of filmmakers and film enthusiasts to assist Moviebuff in shortlisting the Films.

  • Moviebuff reserves the sole rights to shortlist Films from the submitted Films. Moviebuff decision on the shortlisted Contestants is final and binding for all Contestants.

TOP 5 SELECTION PROCESS

  • The shortlisted films will be published on the www.moviebuff.com and the public will be invited to participate in the voting process.

  • There is no option for the public to cast negative votes.

  • Based on the votes received by each of the shortlisted contestants, five finalists will be shortlisted by Moviebuff.

REJECTION/DISQUALIFICATION

Moviebuff reserves the sole right to disqualify any entry if:

  • Contestant’s Film is not in consonance with the T&C.

  • Contestant does not own/possess valid and lawful rights over the Film.

  • Any Contestant using manipulative means to garner more votes or jeopardise any other or jeopardise any other Contestant’s entry by any means.

  • Any Contestant’s Film (either partly or in entirety) which is obscene, vulgar, libelous, defamatory, insulting, annoying, blasphemous, hurting religious sentiments, rude, appalling, insensitive, offensive in nature/ against moral sensibilities shall be not be considered for participation and duly rejected right away.

  • Moviebuff reserves the sole right to disqualify any Contestant (including the winner) if it has reasonable reasons to believe that the Contestant/winner has breached any of the “T&C” of the Contest.

  • Any Contestant found to be copying other Contestants’ video/text or using any unauthorized or copyrighted video/text shall be immediately banned from the Contest. Moviebuff shall not be liable for any copyright claims arising so forth.

  • Moviebuff shall not be responsible in any manner to anybody including any of the Contestants for the misuse of any video/text submissions at this Contest.


Moviebuff decision in this regard shall be final and binding.

THE GRAND FINALE

  • The shortlisted 5 Contestants’ Film will compete for the top position in the Grand Finale.

  • The top five films will get a chance to be screened in select Qube network theatres across the state of Tamil Nadu. The films to be screened in a specific theatre and/or the Qube network of theatres shall be at the sole discretion of Moviebuff.

  • Theatres will be divided into five groups. Each group of theatres will play a chosen film once per week for a total period of five weeks.

  • Moviegoers will then be invited to vote for their favourite film by either SMS voting or via apps.

  • The top 5 Contestants shall be required to obtain a certificate from Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to screen the Film at the selected theatres within [7] days of being intimated by Moviebuff.

  • Moviebuff may, but does not have an obligation to, facilitate the Contestant to obtain the censor certification from CBFC however shall not be held responsible in the event such certificate being refused by CBFC for any reason whatsoever.

  • If You fail to obtain a certificate from CBFC within the reasonable period prescribed by Moviebuff, Your Film shall not be eligible to be play back at the Final. The Contestant next to You having the highest number of votes shall be chosen in Your place.

The film with the highest number of votes will be declared as the winner of Moviebuff First Clap.

FORMAT

For YouTube Upload:

    • Video: MP4 H.264

    • Audio: AAC Audio

    • Or any other format supported by YouTube

For Digital Theatrical Playback:

Video Format

  • The Frame rate should be 24fps.

  • Frame size: 1920*808 (letterboxed with 136 pixels of black on top and bottom for a 2.35:1 Scope Aspect Ratio).

  • In case of the content being shot on flat with 1.77 / 1.85:1 then the content may have to be in 1920*1080 full range without any letterboxing of black on top and bottom.

  • The above content can be given on a Panasonic D5 tape or a 10 bit DPX Sequential file.

  • For DI movies, submissions will be accepted in the format mentioned below.

  • The output can be a 10bit DPX / 16bit TIFF or a 12 bit J2C Sequential file.

  • Do ensure all of your content reaches us only in a Linear file format as none of the DI labs work on LOG based workflows any more.

  • You can opt for a DCI colour space on a XYZ or a P3 format whichever the DI setup can accommodate for viewing of content during your grade.

  • Workflows in any DI lab would be only Linear without LUT or can also be on ACES depending on your content and its recommendations (RED / ARRI or Sony D-65/55).

  • In case for some reason if your workflow is in LOG, do ensure the DI lab also gives the LUT along with the DPX files.

Audio Format

  • The Frame rate should be 24fps

  • 5.1 individual mono Wave files (from authorized studios only)

  • 7.1 same as above

Your source to Qube Hard Drive needs to be either in EXT2 or EXT3 File Formats only.


OTHER TERMS & CONDITIONS

Warranties

  • You are solely responsible for the content of Your Film and for the consequences of posting, publishing, or other display of the Film.

  • You own or have lawfully licensed all rights in and to Your Film (including, without limitation, all rights in and to the audio, video and digital recordings embodied in your videos, and all rights in and to each performance contained in Your Film), and you have the sole, full and unencumbered right, title, interest and authority to grant to us each of the various licenses and rights set forth in these T&C.

  • Your Film does not infringe or violate the intellectual property rights (including without limitation, copyrights, trade secrets, trademarks, service marks, or patents), privacy or publicity rights, or any other legal or moral rights of any third party.

  • You are the individual pictured or heard in Your Film, or, alternatively, you have obtained the express, advance written consent from each person (including consent from parents or legal guardians of any individual under the age of 18) who appears or is heard in Your Film.

  • You will keep all records necessary to establish that Your Film does not violate any of the T&C including the foregoing representations and warranties, and to make the records available to us upon our request.

Moviebuff Rights

  • The Contestant clearly agrees that all the rights including sound recording, music in his/her Film are assigned irrevocably on a worldwide basis in favour of Moviebuff without any further fee/consideration.

  • You hereby permit Moviebuff either directly by itself or through its associates and service providers including Little Shows to store, handle, use your Film.

  • Moviebuff is entitled to publish the Film entirely/ any portion thereof and/or its montages with or without any music as it may deem fit. All entries submitted remain the property of Moviebuff and Moviebuff has the right to publish the same in perpetuity without any further fee/consideration. The Contestant shall not claim any royalty or consideration from Moviebuff.

  • Further Moviebuff reserves the right to commercially exploit and use the Film entirely/ any portion thereof and/or its montages with or without any music as it may deem fit.

  • You agree that Moviebuff is permitted to curate and make use of any and all submitted promotional materials, including but not limited to Film stills, descriptions, cast & crew profile and all forms of media for the express purpose of database, promotion and publicity.

Miscellaneous

  • The T&C shall be governed by the laws of India and the appropriate courts at Chennai shall have exclusive jurisdiction to resolve any dispute arising from this T&C.

  • Moviebuff shall not be liable for any damage or loss (including but not limited to indirect or consequential loss) arising from personal injury or death, or loss of, or damage to property, which might be suffered or sustained in connection with the Contest or the prize, except to the extent to any liability not excluded by law.

  • As applicable, You agree to defend and indemnify Moviebuff and its promoters, directors, employees, officers, associates, agents and representatives from and against any and all claims, damages, obligations, losses, liabilities, costs or debt, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees) arising from Your violation of any T&C including violation of any third party’s intellectual property and other rights, any claim from any third party relating to or arising from your participation in the Contest or submission of the Film for the contest or any claim that Your participation in the Contest or submission of the Film for the Contest violates any law, rule or regulation.

  • Contestants shall make no statements to the press or any media service/ to any public regarding Moviebuff, the Contest, or its operations and activities.

  • Moviebuff shall not responsible for any activities, loss or damages of the Contestant during the shooting of the Film and shall not be liable in any manner whatsoever to reimburse the Contestant, any cost that the Contestant incurs in/while making the short film or portion thereof.

  • Moviebuff may, without advance notice cancel, suspend or postpone the contest at any time.

  • The T&C contained herein and as amended/ modified from time to time as mentioned at the Moviebuff website shall apply to this Contest.

  • In case of change in the date of event or cancellation thereof for any reason beyond the control of Moviebuff, Moviebuff shall not be held responsible in any manner whatsoever.
